2002-01-21 Entry: "Sleep Deprivation"

I'm a little tired today. Admittedly it's my own fault, but I feel like moaning anyway.

There were two films on last night that I was toying with watching - I'd seen both before, but was fairly sure I'd end up watching one of them. The plan was supposed to be that I'd watch the earlier one (9:30 to midnight) so that I'd get a bit more sleep. However, my sister persuaded me to watch a couple more episodes of Cupid (only one to go), and we ran on until 11. As such, I was forced into watching the later film (10:55 to 1am). And when my alarm is set for 6:30, that doesn't leave a lot of room for sleep.

Anyhow, the weekend had a quiet night Friday (camped in front of the television), followed by a moderately quiet Saturday. Parents returned that day from their skiing trip, but didn't make it back until 4-ish. My father got suckered into buying a digital camera in duty free - he got the same Fuji as mine; and this after deciding this wasn't the frivolous toy he wanted to get (he had a list of about four).

Sunday saw boredom set in. I tinkered with a couple of minor projects on the PC - I'm saving the full software re-install for when the fan arrives from Maplin. I bought a PC upgrade type set in the Maplin sale; processor, motherboard, and fan. However, only the first two were in stock and the fan was placed on back order... there's been no sign of it as yet, and the upgrade is a bit pointless without it. But, when it does arrive, I'll end up doing a full re-install of software as it's starting to be a little flakey (and it's been four months or so since the last one).

Finally, Sunday ended with Renaissance Man, a slighly moralistic film where Danny DeVito finds himself while teaching a bunch of stupid army recruits. I've seen it three or four times, but it's still fairly watchable; and it's probably better than the alternative film - Jerry MacGuire.

And, because I thought it amusing, a brief snippet from the latest comp.risks digest:
A modern US Navy cruiser now requires 26 tons of manuals.
This is enough to affect the vessel's performance.
